How to Move Your Business from ChatGPT to Claude (My Exact Setup + Where to Start)
Mar 12, 2026How to Move Your Business from ChatGPT to Claude (My Exact Setup + Where to Start)
By Lydia Martin | Launch with Lydia
If you've been running your online business on ChatGPT and lately it just feels a little... flat... you're not imagining things.
I've been using AI tools since before ChatGPT even existed. Jasper, various writing assistants, you name it. And over the last few years, ChatGPT genuinely made my life easier. I was using it for emails, launch copy, YouTube scripts, podcast content, all of it.
But recently I kept noticing the same thing: no matter how much I tweaked my prompts, no matter how many times I said "write in my voice," the outputs felt generic. Like an AI bot, not like me.
When other online business owners kept telling me Claude writes better... Claude writes blogs better... Claude writes emails better... I resisted. The last thing I wanted was to take everything I'd built and trained in ChatGPT and start over in a new tool.
But I gave it a fair shot. And in this post, I'm going to show you exactly what I did to get up and running on Claude quickly, what made the difference, and how you can decide for yourself if it's worth the switch.

First: I'm Not Throwing ChatGPT Away
Let me be really clear about this before we go any further. I have not deleted ChatGPT and I'm not telling you to either.
One of the things I absolutely love about ChatGPT is the ability to build custom GPTs and share them with students and clients. Custom GPTs have allowed the people inside my programs to implement what I teach so much faster and more efficiently. As a GPT builder, I will continue paying for ChatGPT for that reason alone.
Here's something helpful to know as you think about your own setup:
- If you build custom GPTs, you will need to keep a paid ChatGPT plan alongside Claude.
- If you only use custom GPTs (but don't build them), you can access them on ChatGPT's free plan, which means you could potentially pay only for Claude Pro and use the free version of ChatGPT for GPT access.
This isn't about picking a side. It's about using the right tool for the right job. For content creation, blogs, emails, YouTube scripts, podcast content, and course materials... I have moved to Claude. For custom GPTs and images, ChatGPT is still my tool.
Why I Made the Switch: 3 Real Problems I Hit with ChatGPT
1. The Generic Wall
No matter how many times I told ChatGPT "don't do this," "write more like me," "here's my audience," I kept getting the most generic responses. And I didn't always feel that way. Something changed, whether it was a new version or just the nature of how I was using it at scale.
The last thing I want is for my content to sound like an AI bot. I want it to sound like me. I want to use AI to work more efficiently and put my ideas into a flow that's easy for people to consume. ChatGPT was stopping me from doing that.
Claude made a massive difference here from the very first session. More on that in a minute.
2. Having to Constantly Re-Train It
I teach my students how to train their AI projects properly. We talk about knowledge-based documents, audience profiles, genius zone documents, framework documents. I had my ChatGPT projects trained well.
And yet ChatGPT kept seeming to forget. It would reference something from a past conversation incorrectly, or lose context it should have had. I don't have time to re-train a tool I've already invested hours setting up.
Claude, by contrast, has maintained memory across my projects consistently. It references earlier conversations inside a project, it stays oriented to who I am and what I do. And I've only been using Claude for two weeks. Considering I've used ChatGPT for years, that's a pretty clear signal.
3. Claude Asks Clarifying Questions
This one surprised me the most. When I give Claude a task, it doesn't just immediately spit out an answer. It asks what the goal is.
For example, if I ask Claude to write an email, it might ask: is the goal to nurture your audience, send them to your sales page, or invite them to a free workshop? It works like a human assistant who wants to understand exactly what you need before diving in.
You simply click the option that best fits your goal, and the output is so much more aligned with what you were actually looking for. This is a small feature with a huge impact on output quality.
Why I'm Fully Committed to Claude: The Features That Sealed It
Open in Google Docs with One Click
This might sound like a small thing. It is not a small thing.
When ChatGPT gives me an output, I can copy and paste it or open a Word doc. I'm not a Word doc person. I'm a Google Docs person. Every time I had to copy content from ChatGPT into a Google Doc, reformat it, and make it look right, I was losing time.
Claude has a button right on the output that opens the content directly in Google Drive, already formatted. It adds color, creates visual structure, highlights key sections, and even adds a banner. It has put my copyright at the bottom automatically. No copying, no pasting, no reformatting.
For course creators and coaches who are constantly creating guides, lesson documents, outlines, and resources for students and members, this feature alone is a game-changer.
The Outputs Just Look Better
I compared a blog post I wrote with ChatGPT to one I wrote with Claude for the same type of content: a podcast episode blog post.
The ChatGPT version wasn't bad, but it had the telltale signs: three-word sentences, staccato-style writing, a structure that screamed AI. I always had to go back in and fix it, and that time adds up.
The Claude version read like a blog written by a human. Paragraph form, natural flow, the voice I actually write in. I gave it one or two instructions and it built exactly what I wanted. That difference was one of the key reasons I decided to go all in.
Claude also added a frequently asked questions section at the bottom of the blog, unprompted, because I had asked it to include anything that would help with SEO and AI search. It knew what to include to serve the content well. I thought it was perfect.
How to Get Started with Claude (Step by Step)
Step 1: Create Your Account
Head to claude.ai. Claude does have a free version you can use to test it, but if you're using Claude for your business, you'll want to upgrade to the Pro plan.
The Pro plan is the only plan that includes Projects, and in my opinion, projects are a non-negotiable for business owners. You can get started for $20/month, or do what I did and pay annually, which works out to $200 for the year.
💡 I also recommend downloading the Claude desktop app from claude.com/download. There are features only available in the application version, and I access Claude every day directly from my toolbar.
Step 2: Import Your Memory from ChatGPT
Claude has made this surprisingly easy. Once you're logged in:
- Click your avatar in the bottom left corner
- Go to Settings, then Capabilities
- Find "Import memory from other AI providers" and click Start Import
- Copy the prompt Claude gives you and paste it into ChatGPT
- ChatGPT will generate a memory summary you can bring back into Claude
One important note: don't just copy everything over blindly. I put the summary into a Google Doc first and edited it. Some things were outdated, some were related to client work that didn't belong in my personal memory. Clean it up before you paste it into Claude.
Step 3: Create Your Cognitive Blueprint
This is the step that makes the biggest difference. A cognitive blueprint is a document that trains Claude to know everything it needs to know about you: your brand, your audience, your offers, your voice, your goals.
You have two options for creating one:
Option A: Export your ChatGPT conversations. Go to ChatGPT Settings > Data Controls > Export Data. Note that it takes about 24 hours to receive the download link, and you only have 24 hours from that point to download the file. Once you have it, open the zip file and look for the chat.html file.
Bring that file into Claude Cowork and use this prompt:
"Read the entire file and generate your cognitive blueprint. This is the blueprint you can review and analyze to make sure Claude has all of the current information about me."
Option B: Use a prompt in ChatGPT directly. If the export process feels like too much, you can simply paste the cognitive blueprint prompt directly into any ChatGPT project to generate the information you need. Here's the prompt you can use...

Once you have your blueprint, review it, update it with any current information (new rebrand, new offers, new links), and then upload that document into each of your Claude Projects.
Step 4: Set Up Your Claude Projects
Projects are where the real power is. Inside Claude Pro, you can create separate Projects for different areas of your business, each trained with exactly the information it needs.
Here's how mine are organized:
- Your Online Business Mentor (my podcast)
- Cohort Impact Accelerator (my flagship program)
- Ignite (my membership)
Each project has my cognitive blueprint uploaded as a knowledge document, plus any additional context specific to that area. When I open a project and give Claude a task, it already knows who I am, what I'm building, and how I write.
The Blog Post That Convinced Me to Go All In
If you want to see the difference side by side, go to launchwithlydia.com/blog. The post from March 2nd, "What 21 Days of Consistency Did for My Business," was written with ChatGPT. The more recent podcast episode posts were written with Claude.
The ChatGPT post isn't bad. But look closely and you'll spot the AI tells: short staccato sentences, a certain flatness in the structure, a slightly press-release feel. I always had to go back and smooth those out.
The Claude posts read like a human wrote them. Paragraph form. Natural transitions. The voice I actually have. And Claude added an FAQ section at the bottom without me asking for it, because I had instructed it to prioritize SEO and AI search. That kind of contextual awareness is exactly what I needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to pay for both ChatGPT and Claude?
It depends on how you use ChatGPT. If you build custom GPTs, yes, you'll want to keep a paid ChatGPT plan alongside Claude Pro. If you only use custom GPTs built by others, you can access them on ChatGPT's free plan and just pay for Claude Pro ($20/month or $200/year).
Is Claude better than ChatGPT for content creation?
In my experience, yes. Claude produces content that sounds more like a real human wrote it, maintains context across projects more reliably, asks clarifying questions before writing, and exports directly to Google Docs with formatting already applied. For course creators, coaches, and online business owners focused on content quality, Claude has been the clear winner.
What are Claude Projects and why do they matter?
Claude Projects are persistent workspaces inside Claude Pro where you can upload knowledge documents, set instructions, and have Claude remember everything about that area of your business. Instead of re-explaining yourself every session, Claude already knows your voice, your audience, your offers, and your goals. Projects are only available on the Pro plan.
What is a cognitive blueprint and how do I create one?
A cognitive blueprint is a document that captures everything an AI needs to know about you and your business: your brand, your audience, your frameworks, your offers, your tone, your goals. You can create one by exporting your ChatGPT conversation history and running it through Claude Cowork, or by using a specific prompt inside ChatGPT to generate the key information. Once you have it, upload it into each of your Claude Projects as a knowledge document.

Can I move my ChatGPT memory into Claude?
Yes. Claude has a built-in import feature. Go to Settings > Capabilities > Import memory from other AI providers. Claude gives you a prompt to copy into ChatGPT, ChatGPT generates a summary, and you paste it into Claude's memory. I recommend reviewing and editing the summary first before importing, since some things may be outdated or irrelevant.
Does Claude work with Google Docs?
Yes, and this is one of my favorite features. Claude outputs include an "Open in Drive" button that sends your content directly to Google Drive, already formatted with color, visual structure, headers, and highlights. No copying, no pasting, no reformatting. For course creators and coaches who produce a lot of written content for students and members, this is a significant time saver.
Is Claude good for course creators and coaches specifically?
It's been excellent for my business. Claude handles blog posts, podcast show notes, emails, launch copy, course lesson documents, guides, and membership content. The combination of strong voice matching, Google Docs integration, clarifying questions, and reliable Project memory makes it particularly well-suited for online business owners who create a lot of content and need it to sound like them.
